Hey!! it should be Ubuntu 12.04 .. Unity in this version is magical with HUD...giving a outdated version would make the user feel outdated..
morever, there should be two categories.. Developer pack and user pack.. developer pack = User's pack + essential softwares for educational or developer. as for developer pack, git should be mandatory..as it is becoming defacto revision version.
