The general trend is downwards; it seems the fashion is to make everything
look
"simple" (by a process of dilution).

The decline in educational standards is a problem all over the world; but
the western countries realize that technology is the pillar on which their
civilization is built and there is a constant effort to address the
problems with the result that you have stuff like the Raspberry Pi ... on
the other hand, education is a minor concern for our policy makers, busy as
they are with much more important things like scams and scandals.
