I think it is cool people are trying to do it ... I see a little of
myself in them. It’s just their approach that the world could be
better and saying, ‘We should try to do it’. - Someone on Fox News.

"There’s something deeper than making money off stuff. Being a part of
creating stuff for the universe is awesome"

"I feel like we have already succeded in that we've brought awareness
to the fact that there could be other ways of communicating on the
internet. We've brought diaspora into the world"

- Ilya Zhitomirkyi, co-founder of diaspora who died last year at 22.

Today is his birthday, we miss him, but his memories live through
diaspora. We put one * at the end of our names in his memory (first *
is for diaspora itself, so we have two *s at the end of our names).

Diaspora is a dream many of shared with Ilya and his passion,
enthusiasm and initiative will always drive us to continue the work he
has started.

Folks,

I hope most of you have heard about diasora social networking
community. It is a Free Software project for giving users power over
the information they share on the internet. Diaspora is what facebook
or twitter or google plus should have been in the first place. It is
still being developed and need some more work to comptete with some
existing social networks on features.

There is good part to this and challenging part to this. The good part
is, it is easy to join it like signing up for an email address. The
challenging part is that, since it is a social network, you need to
get your friends signed up too!

So here is some simple steps for us to overcome that challenge.

1. Join any diaspora pod today. See the available servers at
http://podupti.me (it is like choosing between gmail, yahoo or hotmail
for an email address, any one is enough to talk to any one on any
other service).
My profile is http://joindiaspora.com/u/j4v4m4n
2. Connect with me so that you have at least one person you know
3. Share your profile address here as a reply and encourage more
people to join as they can see more people they know on diaspora.
4. Tell your friends who are not on this list about diaspora and tell
them people they know are already in it and show them the list of
people already joined.

So ready? Start NOW.

You have to keep reminding your government that you don't get your
rights from them; you give them permission to rule, only so long as
they follow the rules: laws and constitution.
