Hi All,

I would like some help/suggestions on setting up an Ubuntu 13 Dual boot
side by side with Windows 8.

My system is a HP Pavilion Notebook (i3; 64Bit) with preinstalled Win 8.
The notebook has no CD drive, FYI.

I have tried this <https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI> and
this<http://askubuntu.com/questions/221835/installing-ubuntu-on-a-pre-installed-windows-8-64-bit-system-uefi-supported>
 thread,
but half of it is greek and latin to me :( Despite the jargon, it made
some sense to me, especially wrt some known issues viz., disabling the
Secureboot on BIOS and the UEFI issue with newer machines. I also am aware
that the Wubi Installer won't work (as per the note on Ubuntu main page)
for Windows 8. Also there was a suggestion on one of the Ubuntu forums on
changing the "Fastboot" settings on power options. I have tried all that.
Still I cannot boot Ubuntu 13 from my USB. When I restart the system, Win 8
does not take me to a "dual boot"screen at all, and does not recognize the
USB stick either and straight away starts Win 8.

Any suggestions on what to do now ?

Thanks in advance.

Suraj Rajan
