List,

Is the wiki completely unprotected? I am shocked to
see almost every page *only* has spam and no content
at all for all genuine pages created.

I assume the following are the reasons for this:
1. User who created that page, failed to apply a
/watch/ to it.
2. This further lead to more spam on that page, making
it more difficult to find a correct history (when the
page was without spam) of that page to restore it
back.

Surprisingly, there are hundreds of people on the
mailing list who post queries / participate in
discussions but where are the wiki users among them?

The immediate steps to restore the wiki could be:

1. Users who created pages, might probably know when
the did so, and are requested to click the history
section of the article (which currently displays spam)
and click on the link displaying Time, Date of the
article which supposedly is the original article.

2. Give SysOp privileges to those who regularly edit
the wiki and protect pages such as the Main Page or
user pages thereby providing editing rights only to
sysops. (Cases where edits are required to be made by
normal users could be reported on the list or to one
of the sysops who'll do the needful)

3. Apply a watch (make that mandatory) to any page
that you create. Then, you'll know when spam attacks
your page and you can restore it immediately. By
'you', I mean any wiki user.

If you think, you want to flame me, please do so, I'm
unaffected. Instead, if you just help edit the wiki
and restore pages to their original content, it'll
help.

Perhaps, some wiki experts could help out to keep the
wiki more secure from random edits. (if there are
techniques available)

With the help of a few guys from GLUG-BOM, I maintain
the GLUG-BOM wiki, and have applied "watch" to most
pages which help me track spam and restore page to
their original state before spam, almost within a day.

I happen to see this state of the wiki, from a recent
post to the list about the CD Grabs page.
