If you look through the shell script /usr/bin/{iceweasel,firefox} you
will find that it uses variables called ${FIREFOX_DSP} and
${AUDIOSERVER}.

I think the idea is that the user can choose which device or
pseudo-device is used as a sound device by the browser.

I believe that the same sound device is also used by plugins.
However, since one doesn't have the source to the flash plugin or the
real-player plugin one can't really be sure.
