There is no need to install subversion from source on an Ubuntu PC. Just use
the package manager (Synaptic) to figure out the dependencies for you.
Search for "subversion" and install it. Alternatively, you can issue this
command:

sudo apt-get install subversion

from the command line. It will prompt you for your login password.
