yes, please check that out; can you find anything in there that contradicts 
what i have posted? let me repeat, debian was only announced on aug 16 1993 - 
you can even google for the original posting and it says precisely that 
(impending release or imminent release is the wording in the original posting, 
i believe). celebrating the day of announcement as debian day is quite fine, 
but calling it the birthday is a stretch, no? the 'unusable' release came soon 
after. and when i say unusable, i mean like ls does not work. and, i did open 
my post with, "maybe, nitpicking".
