Hi friends, We put up stalls for the festival Insyder-2008. The festival focussed on building intelligent systems for rural development. Our team comprised of Mr.Raman, Mr.Bhaskar, Mr.T.Shrinivasan , Mr. Ramadoss and myself. We had about 4 rounds of preparatory sessions with the students prior to the event and our team travelled from chennai to thiruvanamalai. Though the event is not about talking the latest trends of IT developments, but to focus how to build intelligent systems for rural development.
We showcased 10 stalls, 1) LTSP future for tommorrow 2) Agriculuture Information system 3) Vetinary and Information system 4) Women self help group knowledge management site 5) Educational softwares (2 stalls) 6) Rural industries information system 7) E- Medicine 8) Makkal thodrapu maiyam (Public sms addressing system) 9) Village geo info matics. Traditional to the way of ilugc custom of conducting the LDD, we put the students in front to build the system, make them understand the nuances of the system , implement them (right from data collection) and present them in front of the public. Our team effort pulled a great satisfaction of work when seeing the students in business. Our LTSP stall had a good attention of the visitor, while the education software stalls was packed with the visitors especially young school students playing games, gcompris and watching movies(bunny) which are made with blender. All our stalls were powered with Linux operating systems.Stall no 2,3,4,6 are powered by Joomla 1.5 CMS and the contents are punched with Tamil unicode. Stall no 8 powered with Gnokii engine, notably the guy who led that team is from kamban engineering college showed his dedication to work, by making the exhibit possible by build it, debugging and fixing issues with respect to sandwiching the java swing code with gnokii c code. Stall no 9 is all about taking stocks of important places in a village like schools, primary health care centre, police station, eb office, telephone office, vao house plotted in the Google map. IMO the data collection of geo coding and collection of gpx file and plotting the data in the map may be a good start to the students to persuade their careers in geo infomatics. The function was inaugurated on 28 th aug 2008 by Dr.Rajagopal Secretary Gandhigram trust, showed interest in visiting each stall and understanding the exhibit , appreciating and advising the students. The second day of occasion is marked with the presence of our union IT minister Mr.A Raja, who visited the stalls. The third day the event concluded. Overall, Our team enjoyed, we had good experience. Thanks and regards, Thyagarajan Shanmugham. _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, email [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe <password> <address>" in the subject or body of the message. http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc
