in ubuntu 8.04 (even versions before that) comes with bluetooth support.

go to system > preferences > bluetooth and select visible and connectible
for other devices. give a name to your adapter too. then normally it should
show you the devices available. and you can connect to one of them.

if not.

install ...

#apt-get install

gnome-bluetooth
nautilus-sendto
obex-server
obexftp
bluez-utils

i don't remember all the pkgs right now, you may insall all the pkgs related
to bluetooth.
