Generally it is not a good idea to install packages from an earlier 
version.

What is it in 8.10 that you want real bad and is not available in 8.04?

Why not install 8.04 (from the DVD you have) when you have confessed 
that you do neet the bleeding edge packages of 8.10?  Since 8.04 is LTS 
(long term support) most likely newer version of packages may available 
for 8.04.
