I use Ubuntu with SCIM (Smart Common Input Method package). SCIM supports many Indian languages and with a patch from CDAC you can use it for Open Office also. Of course you need to know the key mappings and there are phonetic system also (when you type angrezee and it types अन्ग्रेज़ी ). Cheers Varadarajan
