true - my nephews in New Zealand took around ten years to qualify as doctors as they kept taking a year off to travel or to work with the underpriviledged. I had this same sabbatical discussion there. People from the much higher levels of employment *do* on occasion take time off, and are able to get re-employed when they come back. But not the general run of person.
