Since you have invested some time in Maemo , there is a question to be
asked at this point in time why you want to leave that ? have you
tried applying for a Job with Nokia showing interest in working on
Maemo if you have contributed something to it half of your job is
already secured , talk to the right project leads or owners for a day
job or intern ship to begin with.

Coming to the question of scripting languages they come handy in your
day to day activities , i call them transferable skills through jobs ,
so it will help and does not hurt learning few scripting languages
when you are idling around.

So coming back to the basic question of Mobile Maemo/Android/Symbian
etc VS Web Applications at some point they meet in certain
applications so it will be a Handy skill to have . An employer will
prefer a Guy who is focussed on a product or platform if there focus
in Product development and if they are service oriented they generally
prefer a person with multiple skills.

so it all boils down to where you want to go Product company or
Service company or want to create a Service or Product company of your
own!!!
