Hi everyone, I have a Dell XPS M1330 with the Nvidia 8400M GS. For a long while now, I've been running Ubuntu and it's been a pleasant experience. However, lately I have had this issue where compiz and X.org both decide to hog the CPU. A few seconds after this begins, the whole machine freezes (with no response even to SysRq keys) unless I can interrupt by restarting the computer before that happens.
As you can imagine, this isn't really fun. Any solutions? Further information: 1. I don't have Flash on this computer. 2. I occasionally boot up a Windows XP virtual machine. 3. The computer reported temperatures of 73 °C and 48 °C for the GPU and the processors respectively the last time this happened. 4. I have a small swap partition, but I rarely ever run out of memory (I have 3 GB of RAM) 5. The WLAN LED begins flashing on and off right after the computer freezes. Usually, it only flashes when there is traffic over that device. 6. I am using 2.6.24-23 x86_64 with Ubuntu 8.04 Thank you for reading, -- Roshan George <[email protected]> _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, email [email protected] with "unsubscribe <password> <address>" in the subject or body of the message. http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc
