Firstly, that was a well written technical query with detailed code
and output messages.

| import_func: Unknown symbol myexportfun

I used the following Makefile, and built export_func and import_func
modules, and it works fine on Fedora 10, 2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686:
=== Makefile ===
obj-m += export_func.o
all:
make -C /lib/modules/$(shell uname -r)/build M=$(PWD) modules
clean:
make -C /lib/modules/$(shell uname -r)/build M=$(PWD) clean
rm -f *~
=== END ===
Copy the same Makefile and use it in the import/ directory replacing
export_func.o with import_func.o.
=== dmesg ===
<exp_init> Module to demo export of symbols!
<my_init> Module to demo export of symbols
<myexportfun> I am a exported function - NEW!
== END ===
