yes - these are virtual domains, so for each domain a directory is set up 
using the domain name as it's name

it has - dovecot is also being used by postfix as the LDA and uid 5000 has no 
difficulty in writing to that directory - indeed this is the most baffling 
error I 
have ever seen in linux in the last 14 years.
