Why don't you ask the employee? Or don't you trust your employees? :-) By the way logging in as root via the GUI on a shared system is not such a great idea _unless_ you trust your users. A clever user can easily use various ruses to get your password. For example, it is relatively easy to run qemu in fullscreen mode and get a prompt *exactly* like the one running on the base system. Now if this qemu is running with key-logging, your root password would get recorded. There are many other such tricks. It is safer to login over the network using ssh from a machine to which only you have access. One other option is to use the SAK key (usually Alt+SysRq+K) after switching to a text-mode console. This will ensure that you are actually running the system "getty".
