Here are the steps. First you need to have VB Guest addons in your guest OS.
This is applicable to all Guest OS in VB.

1) Install the VirtualBox Guest Addons. This can be done after you start
linux. From VB menu (not from the main window), there is a link to it. This
action will show a Addons CD in your Linux desktop. Right-click the CD and
auto start. This will install addons.
2) Shut down your Linux.
3) From Guest OS settings in VB add a folder which you need to share. Give a
shorter name for the share.
4) Start your Linux guest OS.
5) From terminal create a folder called "<type something>" under /mnt
6) Type "sudo mount -t vboxsf folder-name /mnt/<type something>"
7) Bingo!!! you got that shared folder loaded.

You know what, I had this problem a couple of days back. I fixed it myself.

I got this link from googling with "virtualbox shared folders ubuntu"
as
keywords.
