that is strange.. i haven't used any of lenny/debian systems before..
so not sure about the defaults..

here is what i would check..

1. cron.allow & cron.deny files for user access controls

2. /etc/pam.d/cron

3. is crond service running.

4. /etc/syslog.conf for checking the log config...

could you attach/paste them if they dont contain any confidential info?
