Its like studying about "BIke mechanics" all the four years, and suddenly asked to repair a bike or rida bike. However, i feel, including LAMP as a subject may give only basic introduction. I havent yet seen the book yet. Unless we create a strong open source movement, that spearheads some really serious open source products, student may not actually learn much. We need the passion of people like "Shivaji" in our group, who had the interest and vision to make in to GSoC. Why dont we institutionalise such open source product development. Still i could find that most of our developers, are familiar only with coding, but NOT with architecture and design of the application. When i first started working in wordpress, the first thing, i tried to understand was the architecture of the application, that helped me a lot later. Just my few thoughts.
