They want Outlook addressbook which has a uniform format. Anyway I am getting out of my premise here. Though I do know certain aspects of Windows I am really not good at it. So I will stop here. >> And he needs open relay and an easy way to send e-mails. > > assume open relay - lot of inexperienced users have that That is different technology. Using botnets for sending spam. Virus writers do that with Windows machines and possibly linux open relays. But the end machines are never linux. So you are right. I am right too. >> I am not saying that it is not possible, but highly unlikely. > > in my early days I used to run as root, have an open relay and ftpd was > enabled - I got root kitted Though I am a cryptographer I do not use secure practices in my life. I have never got affected. I have a free attitude towards life and it percolates into my computing practices also. Linux is prone to attacks as you testify, but not virus attacks. Usually the harm is restricted to your server or your service. You don't launch a network wide denial of service attacks with a bunch of linux zombies. Windows can be easily taught to work like a bunch of zombies in concert and form a spammer botnet. Such things can't be done with Linux. Ok I am wasting enough time already. Sorry have lot of work. If you have further questions please take it offline. -Girish -- Gayatri Hitech web: http://gayatri-hitech.com SpamCheetah Spam filter: http://spam-cheetah.com _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, email [email protected] with "unsubscribe <password> <address>" in the subject or body of the message. http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc
