Linux also has an option of per packet or per connection based balancing which is useful if upstream routers use stateful filtering. It is pretty simple and easy in Linux too. Wrote a shell script to ping different ISP gateways and store states based on return codes. Had old states and new states variables based on which route was redefined. Put this in crontab and it worked like a charm.
