*What is NGO in a Box?*

NGO-in-a-box is a collection of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) tools
selected for use by non-profit organizations,along with workshops conducted
to help users effectively deploy the software in their organizations.The
software is distributed in down-loadable form and as a physical  set of
cd's.

*This is a Call for participants* for our *9th* workshop. Make use of this
free software workshop to enrich your knowledge and help your organization
effectively leverage free software without the licensing hassles. Learn
about free software components and methodologies and how to enable it in
your everyday work.

*All participants will be expected to bear their own travel costs.Training
and food is free for all participants.*

*Organizers:* This  workshop is being organized jointly by CWDR,Chennai
http://www.cwdr.org.in/ and Mahiti Infotech,Bangalore.

*Participant profile:** *This event is geared towards NGOs and similar civil
groups who have a need to migrate from proprietary software to open source
alternatives. System integrators and consultants who provide IT support to
NGO's are encouraged to participate.



The workshop will cover the following broad domains:



*Free and** Open Source Software*:

·         Introduction to Linux based distributions Fedora, Ubuntu.

·         Open Office Tools.

·         Internet Tools (firefox, pidgin, thunderbird).

·         Desktop publishing (GIMP, scribus, inkscape), Web publishing(CMS,
blogs).





*Indian Language Support*:

·         Problems and issues related to use of non-standard/proprietary
fonts and tools.

·         Status of current support for Indian languages.

·         Set up, and customisation for Indian language desktops

·         Becoming an active member of the community, and contributing back.

Discussions on getting support, creating active groups/community out of
participants and creating similar groups in their locality/work space.
