Here is how you modify a running kernel in OpenBSD

Login as root.

# config -e /bsd -o /bsd
UKC> find audio
UKC> change azalia
 ( Enter new PCI dev #, function # and bus # and even flags)
UKC> quit
Saving modified kernel.

I have got audio working several times with this approach. No need to
have kernel source code or recompile the kernel
to have new features.

I figure out the audio device's response to hardware configurator
stage whilst booting using

$ dmesg
