To start the career in Cisco / Networking.. CCNA is the base.

   1. CCNA(Cisco Certified Network Associate) can be written as a single
   exam or can be split into two. ICND 1(CCENT) and ICND 2. after completing
   ICND 2. the CCNA is achieved.
   2. The cost for every exam in cisco world wont be less than 12,000.
   (Depends upon dollar rate).
   3. Most of the questions will be logical and situation based. there will
   be atleast 2 simulation based questions.
   4. Practice.. practice.. a lot. on routers. Do NOT mug-up the commands
   without practicing them.
   5. To try hands-on the routers. there are three choices-

   - Buy your own router.. checkout the used cisco routers prices on ebay..
   - Join some training center. In Chennai Sams Bound is the best.
   - Download GNS3 and simulate the routers. see.. http://gns3.net/ - The
   best way..

Lots of books are available on CCNA.. I would recommend 'Tod Lammle' Sybex
publication.

I would recommend self-study using the sybex book.. and practicing them
using GNS3.
