Hi, I tried to download the latest kernel packages using yum. However during dependency resolution I got an error indicating:
--> kernel conflicts with iwl4965-firmware So now from what I understand is, that in an ideal scenario, the new kernel would require the firmware of the device to be upgraded for the drivers in the new kernel to be able to communicate with the device. Is this rite? If the above is right and say I upgrade the firmware, then isn't it supposed to effect the working of the device, when I boot into Windows. I had faced this earlier too, I have a nVidia card and had updated the kernel using kernel*, this updated the firmware too, so now I had to reinstall the proprietary drivers of nVidia to get the display. Moreover when I booted windows, I did not face any issues. Isn't firmware on the device and isn't is supposed to effect the functionality when I boot into another OS?
