Hi, I'm trying to connect my Arch Linux laptop to the internet with my Nokia 5800. I'm using wvdial. wvdialconf was able to detect my modem and wrote configuration files. When I connect, wvdial makes a connection and then disconnects abruptly. It says
--> Modem initialized. --> Sending: ATDT*99# --> Waiting for carrier. ATDT*99# CONNECT ~[7f...@!}!} } }2}...@#}!}$}%\}"}&} }*} } g}%~ --> Carrier detected. Starting PPP immediately. --> Starting pppd at Mon Mar 29 19:24:29 2010 --> Pid of pppd: 2247 --> Using interface ppp0 --> pppd: [03][7f] --> pppd: [03][7f] --> pppd: [03][7f] --> pppd: [03][7f] --> pppd: [03][7f] --> pppd: [03][7f] --> Disconnecting at Mon Mar 29 19:24:34 2010 --> The PPP daemon has died: A modem hung up the phone (exit code = 16) --> man pppd explains pppd error codes in more detail. --> Try again and look into /var/log/messages and the wvdial and pppd man pages for more information. My /var/log/messages.log tells me Mar 29 19:24:29 kanini pppd[2247]: pppd 2.4.5 started by root, uid 0 Mar 29 19:24:29 kanini pppd[2247]: Using interface ppp0 Mar 29 19:24:29 kanini pppd[2247]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyACM0 Mar 29 19:24:29 kanini pppd[2247]: PAP authentication succeeded Mar 29 19:24:31 kanini pppd[2247]: LCP terminated by peer Mar 29 19:24:34 kanini pppd[2247]: Connection terminated. Mar 29 19:24:34 kanini pppd[2247]: Modem hangup Mar 29 19:24:34 kanini pppd[2247]: Exit. Error 16 and LCP terminated by peer. I also modded my 10-modem.fdi file in /usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop to include my product id (0x0156) in the Nokia section Still no use. =( I've looked up the problem. There seems to be no solution available.
