If this is ur requirements, then I would also suggest you to look the security feature of Lotus Notes/Domino.... Its a proprietary s/w, but has good security feature.... Here I m not advocating the Lotus Notes, I m just suggesting you to look its security and other features, so that it will help you to understand and create the cross certification between OU, replica etc like concepts.
