Great app. One can also look into Amanda (or Zmanda -- it's commercial couterpart). Fantastic. What I loved about Amanda is it's Virtual Tapes (essentially [block device] disk which could be NAS, SAN, DRB, remote FTP's(?) etc. etc. ) the best part of it is that it stores in common tar.gz or zip or the such compressed file format. so you can recover your data without installing amanda recovery tool, so to say. Well, I didn't say it is for gui warriors. Rather for commandline-fus. :) Tremendous stuff these backup tools are. I haven't tested the BMR (bare metal recovery) part though with any of these tools. I suggest we start/continue this thread on the shortest BMR starting with, say "dd if=/dev/sda [or <whatever>] of=<whatever>" for backing up and the inverse for restoration. any takers?
