They reside under /var/ . Configuration files reside under /etc/ Try to knock windows off your mind when you think about software in Linux. They work differently. Windows has its own idiosyncrasies. Read up on Linux filesystem hierarchies and about what goes where. Normally, you won't need to look at the "program files". Let the list know what exactly you want to be able to do and someone will help you.
