Ha ha. Our company specializes in most of these areas.

I thought RAS was Remote Access Service. Anyway qemu is what we use
for virtualization. Same as KVM. Xen is not good.

It is actually emulation but good enough for us. Not para
virtualization. But it gets the job done. Very well.

For high availability in linux there is something called HA-Proxy. But
we don't use it. We use relayd(8) on OpenBSD.

What to talk of file systems? ;)

If you want a good file system you should use open source UNIX like
the BSDs. Don't even think of Linux.

There was big talk of Solaris and their ZFS but then I think you what happened.

Commercial interests killed it.

In general we stay away from anything commercial.

The way the world is going money is in packaging and appliances. Not
so much in the intrinsic value of software itself.

Stuff like VMWare are on its way out I think...

But despite all this Microsoft Windows and its associated partners
like Microsoft Exchange, Outlook, Office and so on will
always be in demand. I cannot think of a time when demand for these
things will reduce.

Linux and UNIX are good for server side. And Windows is good for
desktop use. Though some people prefer Linux for desktop
Windows surely has its undeniable place.
