hi,

the second meet of ilugcbe took place on the 13th. Turnout was a little
low - only about 50 people, but this was due to the fact that Amrita
University is in a very remote location, so many people could not make
it. The meeting was lively, and there was a very interesting discussion
as the Amrita faculty were describing how they are trying to replicate
an open source environment within the local LAN for students to get used
to collaborative working. The key problem they face is: if students
collaborate, how does one give grades/marks to individual students?
Other problems are things like blocked IRC and the reluctance of the
sysadmins to permit students to recompile the kernel of their systems.
There was also a moonlit meeting with students and faculty in the
children's park. If all goes well we will be conducting a conference
some time next year ...
