Agree. For a final year project the goal should be copying existing stuff off the Internet kept at a bare minimum(it is necessary even in big commercial projects, trust me) and learning should be maximised and you should focus on design challenge and not so much coding. Please focus on this goal. It is not the output that counts, but the learning, thinking and the experience that will give you the confidence. Project should take you to a point where when you attend interviews and talk about the project the person at the other side of the table feels your involvement, passion and technology focus and knowledge. It is all about body language, vibes and the feelings that you evoke in the other person. You cannot fake it. It has to be genuine.
