Not quite what I said. The whole thing actually started off as a commentary on licenses and not about success or failure about anything. If you want to look at how licenses impact development, NetBSD is one project you can look at and there are many others. To convince yourself, one needs to catch up on the history of these projects with too many details to cover here. Feel free to do your reading and research as I have. That fundamentally seems to be your mistaken assumption and it is indeed strange as I have already indicated, licenses are tools to achieve other goals and specifically noted that calling one license better than other is not useful without context. Permissive and copyleft licenses both serve different needs . While I work with predominantly copyleft licenses, the precise license choice I advocate is based on the specific project in question and developers involved.
