If you can source it from singapore, it will be a lot cheaper.

I bought my mac book pro for 58k(INR).

I use macports, but it is not same as your production server environment.

The versions of some of the libraries in production & development may not
match.
Its mainly dependent on the web stack you use.

As for me, i use node.js/mongodb and didnt really have any problem.

i do have the problem of firing up a virtual instance of windows to test in
IE(majority of users).
