Hi ILUGC, I am a little embarrassed to say that although I've been a member of the LUG for quite a while, I haven't contributed much to the mailing lists. As a matter of fact, I think this is my first thread! So, in the same "noob"ish fashion that new members, I'd like to say that I am sorry I am not abiding by the Code of conduct. I want to make up for the lost time. So, let's get to the topic at hand:
All of us who are dying to get a Diaspora login can get one right now! - Yes, right now at diasp.org for free obviously. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Diaspora, let me explain - It is an open-source peer based social networking platform. It is like facebook or G-plus, but you control all you data. You own all your data and have full control over the privacy! No more corporate muscle people. The democracy of the social network is here. Become it's netizens now! If you get a membership at one diaspora pod (servers) you can access members of all pods, ie., I have a membership at diasp.org but you can have your diaspora id on your own private pod but I can still connect with you. This holds good for all pods. Even the first official pod by the developers ( joindiaspora.com) runs connected to all! It's not like you can't with you orkut friends from facebook! It's a universal platform. You can get a list of a lot of featured pods and their up-times at podupti.me. You can also learn more about the structure and working about diaspora on diasporafoundation.org. Ruby on Rails experts can also start contributing to the project via code. By the way, I missed the RoR session from last week and I'd love to have an encore session. Getting to the social side of it, I just opened up a chennai MAD(IASPO)RAS meetup at our meeting next month! (12th November, 2011). The link is here(meetup) <http://www.meetup.com/Diaspora/Chennai-IN/>. Please join in and populate both diaspora and the meetup. (And oh, I hope the office-bearer(s) doesn't/don't mind. :P) I have also just started (i really mean just now. So, it's still being modified) a blog for the Chennai diaspora community at wordpress.com<https://madiasporas.wordpress.com/> and I want some help from some "ruby" and "ruby on rails" devs as well as good bloggers to help populate the blog with a lot of useful stuff on diaspora both for users and other devs. I would love it if we get recognized as a hub of activity for diaspora-chennai. Cheers, Suraj. PS. I am really sorry for the long post though! -- A *KEYBOARD* is mightier than a sword. You can catch me at diasp.org/u/faytaliti or at [email protected] or at this email address. _______________________________________________ ILUGC Mailing List: http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc
