Hmm. It is a matter of perspective. In MBA phraseology I would say as I said: It depends. Or some such crap. But I am not a management guy. I was never part of any management leave alone senior. Despite my 15 years work exp I have only been a programmer. For some reason God made me that way. Anyway I learnt the need for memorizing from my manager in my third job in Bangalore. At that point I used to think like you. I thought that remembering switches were not important. But what a star my manager was? I think the only guy who I thought was really my metier. But then only when I saw him applying those master strokes on the keyboard I found how great memory was in UNIX. And though you might now get away with being lazy with command switches you cannot come up with an argument for vi(m) keystrokes. Sure, you can refer the online help shipped with vim. But will that make things easier or difficult? > Arise Awake and stop not till the goal is reached. > - Swami > Vivekananda Out of childish innocent humor I will bite. Do you know what a great memory power Swami Vivekananda had? The key to memory power is good ennobling divine thoughts and a stable calm mind. And also a very pure lifestyle. For those without adequate memory, there are 100s of excuses. Even stuff like what you read in Sherlock Holmes. " I don't put things in my brain that will elbow out useful things." That is rubbish. Our minds are infinitely capable if only we know how to cultivate it. -Girish -- G3 Tech Networking appliance company web: http://g3tech.in mail: [email protected] _______________________________________________ ILUGC Mailing List: http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc
