You have got a fairly new hardware so I would suggest stick with the
latest versions.(Ubuntu 10.04 might be ancient for your hardware)

try "acpi=off" and/or "noapic" as kernel boot parameters with Kubuntu
and Fedora.

My engineer has bought a laptop with similar config except for the
CPU, which is i5-2430.
