Hello and hi, I did a 6 day workshop on the topic "web programming with foss tools" at IIIT -Gothapatna - Bhubaneswar - Odissa - India between 30th of March 2012 and 4th of April 2012.
There were 70 participants actively participated in this exercise. Out of the 6 days, 2 days the classes were conducted till 12 am(yes 12 am i mean the mid night)The event was a grand success. Prior to the start of this workshop ,I requested the event organiser Mr.Bishnu patra to see that Ubuntu is kept ready on all the students machine, which he did. There were bandwidth issues when 70 students accessing internet through wifi router (a kind of bsnl router we have it in our home), even sudo apt-get update took so much of time, so asked the last row people to come forward near the router to have better access and get the installation done faster. We worked with ubuntu -10.04/11.04 versions in all the terminal and xampp for lamp stack support. I taught the students how to install ruby on rails through rvm and through a conventional style of apt-get install ruby-full. This installation process for around 50 machines for all the 70 participants seems to a kind of problem because of the bandwidth. you can see that wifi bandwidth struggle here in this photo http://openvidya.fossfactory.in/workshops/index.php/Workshop-on-web-programming-using-foss-tools-held-at-IIIT-Bhubaneswar-Gothapatna-Odissa-India/struggle I have documented the content of the course line up at http://openvidya.fossfactory.in/course.html .
