Ubuntu desktop LTS 12.04 may be a better option. IMO RHEL is a server distro; it does have the desktop packages buut they may not be the latest version. Go with CentOS, it is based on RHEL source RPMs. > > My Doubts: > > 1) Is NIS enough for Authentication ? Why do you want to NIS when you have MS - ADS. ADS is based on LDAP and Kerberos platform. NIS is older technology and no point rolling that when you already have a better platform. > 2) Is NIS Authenticated through broad band connection ? You mention MPLS and I am guessing this is MPLS VPN. If so, then you already have the infrastructure in place. With MPLS VPN, your entire company is one big LAN. The ADS should be visible to all locations within the VPN. You may want to have backup ADS for fail over scenarios. Any Linux distro should have the libraries to Authenticate the users and services with ADS. <sidebar> >From a couple experience with the Tech Support @ Telecom service providers I would strongly suggest that you have a competitive network engineer on your side of the fence (at least on a part time level). </sidebar> > 3) Should i Pay any thing to Redhat for using these things? To the best of my knowledge RHEL license is *not* free (except for a trial period) so this question is irrelevant. Yes, you have to pay Redhat if you intend to use their products in a "production" mode.
