They have been there forever and they will be there , these are one of the
most satisfying and remunerative jobs one can have. You need not try to
look out too hard for jobs they are plenty in the market at every level.

depends on lots of factors , your skills , size of operations you have
manged and of course you need to have programming skills too and
the languages you mentioned do come in handy . Just an example of scale
think about Google, Yahoo and Facebook what kind of engineers must be
handling there operations.

Well initially  you are like Sponge , if you are not you better be one ....

Seen Sysadmins who had  washed dishes to written  books   and yes they are
wonderful human beings to work with , Have faith in whatever you do you
should just be fine , do not forget to Enjoy whatever you are doing !!
