Your questions sounds immature. ;)

TCP is the protocol used in around 93% of the data transfers on the web.

DNS uses UDP. Most popular protocols use TCP.Of course VoIP uses UDP
 also because it should do hole punching to traverse NAT firewalls.

How else will you determine bandwidth?

There is no way to tell the OS your bandwidth.

At any rate certain basic ideas lot of people dunno.
