Can this whole bundle be installed in a pendrive, taken from an ubuntu
to a centos or xp box or a win7 box and run without any installation
as it is not possible to install *anything* on the box (reasons:
Corporate IT Policies, password not known and the such)  into which
this pendrive is plugged in?

I had in mind windows apps like irfanview/notepad++ "portable".

Is it possible to pool in some ideas to develop a methodology of
making "portable" application, its requirements, packaging,
development framework and the such?

I will pool in whatever ideas I have tried and implemented
successfully and unsuccessfully in the past.

Most of the installation nowadays spray files all over the place and
sometimes "pollute" the installed base.
