AFAIK .edu is limited to colleges/universities in the US alone now. (And
registration used to free based on providing proof/documents, I'd helped
register one in the 90s when they were more lax and allowed everyone to
register)
Rules must be similar for ac.in
Schools in the US use k12.2-letter-state-code.us subdomain. I don't think
there's an equivalent for that in India.
