Congrats on finding the offending service that kept tripping you.

In my CentOS 6.2 setup (default server installation); hal daemon is
"active" by default.   I did *not* tinker with any of the services
post installation.      It begs the question why is it not enabled by
default in 6.0?

It reaffirms my point about avoiding the .0 version of software
release that I made in an earlier post.

For your production server, I would suggest upgrading to CentOS 6.2 or
6.3 if CentOS is what you want.

Alternately, as Pavithran has suggested you could also look into
Debian, the Debian users will vouch for it.   I have even deployed
it's "testing" release (kind of  beta/release candidate)  into
production - in gateway devices.

BOSS Linux [1]  has been developed by CDAC
targeted for the government organizations.   CDAC provides support via
 CDAC locations across pan India.     I have
no experience with it.  However it is Debian based.
