Tool of the Day: gnuplot Gnuplot is a portable command-line driven interactive data and function plotting utility that supports lots of output formats, including drivers for many printers, (La)TeX, (x)fig, Postscript, and so on. The X11-output is packaged in gnuplot-x11. Data files and self-defined functions can be manipulated by the internal C-like language. Can perform smoothing, spline-fitting, or nonlinear fits, and can work with complex numbers. This package is for transition and to install a full-featured gnuplot supporting the X11-output.
features: • gnuplot can produce output directly on screen, or in many formats of graphics files, including Portable Network Graphics (PNG), Encapsulated PostScript (EPS), Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), JPEG and many others. • It is also capable of producing LaTeXcode that can be included directly in LaTeX documents, making use of LaTeX's fonts and powerful formulae abilities. The program can be used both interactively and in batch mode using scripts. • The program is well supported and documented. Extensive help can also be found on the Internet. • gnuplot is used as the plotting engine of Maxima, and gretl, and it can be used from various languages, including Perl (via CPAN),Python (via Gnuplot- py and SAGE), Java (via jgnuplot), Ruby (via Ruby Gnuplot), Ch (via Ch Gnuplot), and Smalltalk (Squeakand GNU Smalltalk). gnuplot also supports piping. • gnuplot is programmed in C. version: gnuplot 4.4.3-0ubuntu3 size: 9.3 MB to download, 24.6 MB when installed Home page: http://www.gnuplot.info/ screen shots: http://gnuplot.sourceforge.net/demo/showcase_plot.2.png regards, dhanasekar _______________________________________________ ILUGC Mailing List: http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc
