I don't know what wireless device to buy for linux, But I know what device not to buy, don't ever think about broadcom. Sometimes I get details from linuxwireless.org. Here is one list you can take a look at, http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Devices/PCI Linux have atheros driver in mainline (ath9k). But I didn't get a chance to use atheros product. If someone is using it, please give your review. By the way, broadcom is not that bad if you install their binary-only driver (wl - comes with broadcom-sta package in most of the distros). I'm using broadcom and sometimes its irritating to stop loading b43 drivers and enable wl driver. I was informed that b43 driver works great with some broadcom cards, but it never worked for me.
