On International Women's Day (March 8), a Wikipedia Workshop for Women was conducted at College of Engineering, Guindy, (CEG) Anna University. It was jointly organized by Free Software Foundation, Tamil Nadu (FSFTN) and CEG's GNU/Linux Users Group (CEGLUG). Conducted as an all-girls workshop, the workshop was attended by 40 students from the Departments of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Information Science and Technology (IST). The one day workshop was aimed at encouraging women to contribute to Wikipedia and thereby reducing the current gender bias. The participants were not only taught how to contribute to Wikipedia but also about the importance of their contributions and how they can make a difference. The session was handled by Mr. Sibi from Free Software Foundation, Tamil Nadu. At the end of the session, the participants were encouraged to start contributing to Wikipedia as well as its sister projects. The feedback collected showed positive response and a few had requested for follow up sessions.
