I sympathize with your situation. As a developer you are not familiar
with server setup and IT infrastructure services.

You need help in too many areas and there is a learning curve in each of those.

You can try using some of the appliances like pfsense, ipcop etc. but
still you need to have a reasonable understanding of the services you
want to use.

If time is of essence, to your organization, then I would suggest you
request your manager to seek professional help with all of the above.
A competent sys admin can do your setup in about one day's effort.

A different perspective - I have a PHP application that needs some
customization. I am able to understand bits and pieces of the code
but not enough to go through the source code and figure out where to
make the changes. I could teach myself PHP through books, various
fora, become competent to read the code and make the changes. This
may take me 2-3 months but time is of essence to me - my client will
not wait that long. I would be better off assigning the job to a
competent developer, get it done and have a satisfied client :)
